In the year 2552, humans on the planet Madrigal have been fighting for independence from Earth, but a fatal encounter with the Alien Covenant complicates things. As a fan of the entire "Halo" universe, I’m feeling conflicted. Yes, the first episode has some great moments (like the introduction of the Spartans), and the action is enjoyable (with its own brand of bloodiness). Unfortunately, I’m disappointed with the story (which I was afraid of). At times, the casting is dreadful, and there’s a misunderstanding of the source material (like Master Chief taking off his helmet in the first episode and showing his face—seriously?). Also, the portrayal of the individual characters misses the mark. At least the visuals are a saving grace, though there are some amusing moments (like the CGI weapons). For now, it’s a solid 6/10.
