Kristen (2015)

English An enjoyable little indie horror film that is not yet available to the general public. The whole film takes place in a cafe where the main character ends her daily work routine by cleaning, but is interrupted by an unknown caller who knows everything about her and makes her evening a living hell. The film has decent dialogue, decent acting, two near heart attack scares and nicely keeps the viewer on their toes throughout. The ending is a bit of a stretch to fantasy, it didn't quite work for me, but still a decent and eager little flick. 70%.

Scarface (1983)

English Probably the biggest movie debt I've had and I'm very glad I took the time to watch it after a long time, because Scarface hasn't aged a day in 40 years. This is an excellent gangster movie that keeps you entertained, shocked, it’s suspenseful and fascinating for the entire two and a half hours. Al Pacino is excellent, but at times he got on my nerves with his behaviour, his sister is hot and so is Elvira. The action scenes have balls even today and blood is not spared. Perhaps the best part is the rise of Al Pacino from nothing to the absolute top. A great cinematic experience and actually a gem among gangster films. 95%

The Fighter (2010)

English A decent boxing movie starring Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale. I'm actually surprised I didn't get it sooner. It's mostly a drama about two brothers who have family problems and one of them is addicted to crack, but when Wahlberg gets in the ring, it's mostly something to watch. The final fight in particular was excellent. I enjoyed it, but it lacked the emotional impact to make a full count. There have been better pieces, but this one certainly doesn't fall short. 80%.

Ocean's 8 (2018)

English I didn't really buy it, but it was a very pleasant surprise. A very strong female cast, dominated by Sandra Bullock and Anne Hathaway, but Cate Blanchett and Rihanna are also good. The film keeps a solid pace throughout and I really enjoyed watching the planning of the heist as well as the execution, which was delivered intelligently and engagingly enough with a nice final twist included. I also liked the insurance man Columbo, so a decent heist entertainment. 80%.

American Animals (2018)

English Of the last heist movies I've seen, I found this one the least interesting because compared to the competition, where everyone had a well thought out plan, this one showed how not to do it, which is a welcome change, but not so attractive from the viewer's point of view. Unfortunately, it drags at times and lacks more creative charisma, but it's still better than average. 60%

Ghoul (2018) (series)

English The Indians can really do a good job when they want to. This three-part mini-series will be one of the best this year. The story takes place in the near future and is entirely set in a prison where twelve Muslim terrorists are held and tortured and interrogated. Everything changes after the arrival of the 13th prisoner, the most wanted, and the main question is whether he is even human. The first two episodes are a bit slower and more of an introduction, but the final one builds up incredibly and there is no shortage of blood, twists, mystery, suspense and an excellent finale. Pretty good. "Finish the task, make them realise and accept the guilt, eat the flesh." 80%.

Euthanizer (2017)

English A strange indie affair from Finland. The film is about a man who is not very popular in the city, he makes a living by killing pets that the owners want to put down, because it's cheaper than a vet. While most of the horror takes place off-screen, it still has a quite disturbing feel to it, and even hits the gas unexpectedly at the end. Dog owners will probably smash the screen with nerves at the end. A strange, slower paced but fairly original drama/thriller. It was good for one viewing. 60%

Alpha (2018)

English It could have been a bigger hit, it feels slightly like a smaller production, but I was surprisingly immersed in the plot and nicely drawn in. It's actually a period survival film and the emergence of the domestic dog at the same time. The harsh B.C. era is nicely depicted and nature is used to its fullest including animals (wolves, tigers, hyenas, bisons, vultures). The main character is likeable, I also liked the music, and the hunting scenes have a lot of pizzazz, so enough for an above-average rating. 70%

After You (2003)

English The French scored again. Absolutely excellent romantic comedy, which keeps a very nice pace, takes place mostly in a restaurant setting, which is close to my heart, and all the characters involved are very likeable. Good stuff fans of France should not miss it. 80%

Truth or Dare (2018)

English I really didn’t fancy watching this film at first, but I was quite pleasantly surprised in the end. The actors are terrible and there is hardly any gore, but it's decently made, the quests are fun, the deaths are interesting and the girls are pretty, so as a teen horror movie it held up pretty well for me. 60%
