Frenchman Angelin Preljocaj studied classical ballet, from which he later switched to modern dance. In 1984, he set up his own dance company Ballet Preljocaj, whose repertoire has been performed at the world's greatest venues, including Milan's La Scala, New York City Ballet and Paris Opera. The world of dance and ballet inspired him to shoot several short films and videos.
He also cooperated with Olivier Assayas on the authorial film Eldorado. In autumn 2016, he made his feature debut with Polina, which is based on Bastien Vivès's graphic novel of the same title and has strong autobiographical elements.
