Biography

Hong Sang-soo made his directorial debut in 1996 with Daijiga umule pajinnal (The Day a Pig Fell into the Well). Since then, he has composed a prolific filmography particularly including titles like Hahaha (2010), Un Certain Regard award at Cannes, U ri Sunhi (Our Sunhi, 2013), Best Director award at Locarno, and Ji-geum-eun-mat-go-geu-ddae-neun-teul-li-da (Right Now, Wrong Then, 2015), winner of the Golden Leopard at that same festival. In 2016 Dangsinjasingwa dangsinui geot (Yourself and Yours, 2016) nabbed him the Silver Shell for Best Director at San Sebastian Festival, which the following year gave him its Zabaltegi-Tabakalera Award for Geu-hu (The Day After, 2017). With Domangchin yeoja (The Woman Who Ran) he won the Silver Bear for Best Director at the Berlin Festival.
