English Train to the End of the World is brimming with ideas, but it somehow lacks a distinct personality. Aside from the creators' expansive imagination, there's not much that stands out, making it hard for me to really connect with the series or feel confident I'll remember it once 7G is launched. Even the fantasy elements seem like a rip-off, drawing from various sources, including old tales like Gulliver's Travels. The quality of ideas and storylines fluctuates episode by episode, or rather, depending on where the train stops. This inconsistency affects your overall impression of the series. The same goes for the characters. Despite some intriguing designs and backstories, the main characters feel quite average, nothing that really stands out in the vast world of anime. Oddly enough, the most captivating character for me was Mito, the "Zombie Queen," who’s a side character. Among the main cast, the best character might just be the dog. The animation follows a similar pattern. There are a few creative moments and decent use of color, but overall, it’s just average. The use of CGI was noticeable, and towards the end, the production seemed rushed, leading to a week-long break to catch up. Don't get me wrong, the series does have several interesting ideas and a generally likable approach. Watching it was a pleasant enough experience. However, there's nothing here that really grabs you, nothing beyond "it was okay." Actually, I take that back — the music was nice. I enjoyed both the opening and the ending themes. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll put on my tinfoil hat and calmly await the end of the world… 6/10. ()
