John Wayne carries this film on his shoulders the whole time, and he doesn't mind playing roles that aren't exactly enviable. I'm not saying he humiliates himself at all, but he does show vulnerabilities, which might be atypical for someone like John. But that's part of getting older, and he's excellent in roles like this. That was confirmed this time as well. Maureen O'Hara is gorgeous here.
